October 1st is known as Sake Day all around the world. It is the symbolic start of the sake brewing season each year in Japan and the perfect reason to celebrate all things SAKE!
This year, we thought it would be fun to combine some learning with our sake and invite everyone to try their hand at blind tasting!
Here is a run down and description of the event.
5:00pm Doors Open (Brooklyn Kura will be open from 5PM. )
6:30pm Guided Blind Tasting Practice Session
Starting at 6:30pm, we’ll break into small groups and practice blind tasting sake! No experience tasting? No problem! We’ll have a group for absolute beginners and we’ll make the tasting practice fun and not too serious. Unique Sakes for tasting and some light snacks during the tasting will be provided.
Why study Blind tasting? When we study tasting, we can hone our senses. With blind tasting, we are not influenced by the sake’s packaging, brand name, price or anything else. It can be nerve wracking to go out on a limb, but tasting practice is essential to grow your appreciation for sake. Let’s give it a try together!
Who will lead the tastings? Each group will be lead by a sake expert from the American Sake Association.
7:30 -8:30 pm Sake Social Hour
After the tasting practice, we’ll enjoy a social hour at the Brooklyn Kura tap room. Brooklyn Kura’s delicious sake will be available for purchase straight from the tap. Enjoy some social time with fellow sake lovers and have a Kanpai for World Sake Day!
We hope you’ll join the fun and help make Sake Day 2019 in NYC a big success! Look forward to seeing you there!
